Swings at Mackle Park
|
 |
Sometimes when you're on vacation with your children they want to do something other than go to the beach everyday, especially if they are very young. Mackle Park is great for children of all ages. It has a large fenced "tot lot" with multiple swings and slides of all sizes.
The park also has covered basketball courts, shuffleboard, indoor billiards, a large freshwater lake for fishing, a jogging path around the lake, and a large open field play area. It's open to the public Monday to Sunday from 8:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
Directions: San Marco Rd., right onto Heathwood Dr. left onto Andalusia Terrace

It
seems all kids have a fascination with dolphins. A place to see them without a boat is from the boat launch on the extreme south end of the island. We have seen Manatees there a few times
also.
Directions: Take Collier Blvd. south to the end (it turns to the left - keep going). You will see the boat ramp on the right. They have restrooms and benches to sit and relax. Bring your camera.
Another good spot for dolphin watching is the Snook Inn Restaurant. They have a viewing deck on the second floor behind the outdoor bar. It's a place we regularly visit for dinner, the entertainment and the dolphins.
Directions: The Snook Inn is at the end of Bald Eagle Drive (north). Go to the extreme end, when the road turns left continue straight into the parking lot and turn right.

A trip to Marco Island should also include seeing the Manatees.
They are a little harder to spot sometimes unless they come
close to the seawall or dock. Since they breath air (like
dolphins) they have to stay near the surface. The one place we
have found them in large groups is on the south end of the
island near the canal side condos. There are not many places you
can see the Manatees in Florida, especially without a boat. So
don't miss it.
Directions: Take Collier Blvd. south (just before Cape Marco) and turn left onto Swallow Dr. and another left onto Huron Dr. The manatees are in the canal behind the condos on the left side of the street. Park somewhere and walk through the buildings.

| If you are vacationing on Marco Island with your children and you don't want to carry all the car seats, strollers, playpens and cribs there is a better answer. If we do not have what you need in our home you can rent almost anything you need for your children and have it delivered to the house. |
